The Pikes Peak Writer’s Conference

On April 23-25, I had to honor of being a faculty member at the Pike’s Peak Writers Conference in Colorado Springs.  During the conference, I had the opportunity to give three workshops: “Writing Combat In Science Fiction,” “All About Character,” and “Now What – A Guide To Your First Professional Sale.”  The feedback from these workshops was phenomenal, and I hope to have the opportunity to return as a faculty member in the years to come.

During the event, my friend Patrick Hester (yes, that Hugo Award winning podcaster) interviewed me for an upcoming episode of SFSignal.  We had a great discussion about my upcoming novels, the Pike’s Peak Writers Conference, and a little thing that happened to me a year to so ago.  It was a great experience.

Runs In The Family contracted with Strigidae Publishing

My good friends Hank and Hollie Snider finally gave into the pressure a host of us have placed on them to build and run their own small press. The Sniders are phenomenal editors and writers. They have excellent skills in layout and design and they’re both very business savvy. They work with writers to forge prose and keep a sharp eye toward the business of being a writer.

So, when they approached me about my previously self-published novel Runs In The Family being the first science fiction novel in their queue, I was humbled and excited at the same time. I’m thrilled to announce I’ve signed a contract with them to produce the novel. It will receive a new cover by original cover artist Josh Bennett and a thorough polishing edit from Hollie Snider before we re-launch the book. I’ll post updates as I have them.

GalaxyFest 2015

From February 27 to March 1, I participated in the GalaxyFest 2015 in Colorado Springs. This convention was the first I’ve been to where the cosplay outnumbered just about everyone else. There were some phenomenal costumes on display and a ton of awesome people. Our author tracks were organized by the incomparable Jessica Brawner and united folks like Mario Acevedo, Jeanne Stein, Lou Berger, Sam Knight, Paul Lell, Bill Cherf and others. I was glad to be a part of GalaxyFest and can’t wait until next year.

Pikes Peak Writers Pre-Conference Event 2015 “Write Your Heart Out”

I had the opportunity to discuss my experiences as a Kindle Worlds bestselling author with around 150 potential attendees for the Pikes Peak Writers Conference in April I gave a thirty-minute presentation on Kindle Worlds and how it works. The event was a great day with six amazing speakers – going last and following that crowd was difficult to say the least, but it was fun. Looking forward to attending the conference in April.

COSine 2015

The Colorado Springs-based First Friday Fandom club brought back the COSine Science Fiction Convention over the January 23-25 weekend. I had the opportunity to participate in five panel discussions and meet old and new friends. I’ll post a full wrap-up soon, but it was a fantastic experience. I’m already looking forward to next year.
